Fox Mill Woods
Rules and Regulations
The rules and
regulations below are for the protection and benefit of members and their guests. We hope
that Club users will adhere to the spirit and the letter of these rules, regulations and
courtesies.
I. General
A. The use of any Club facility
shall be limited to those hours posted on the premises, or as otherwise stipulated. All
facilities of the Club are to be used at the risk of the member or guest.
B. The club and its facilities have
been provided for the enjoyment of Club members. Guests are welcomed within the limits
described below and must also abide by these rules. Guests shall always be accompanied by
a Club member, who shall be responsible for the guests' behavior while on the Club
property.
C. The general rules are as
follows:
1. The club will not be responsible
for loss or damage to personal property.
2. The cost of any damage to Club property caused willfully or as a result of failure to
obey Club rules will be charged to the responsible member of the Club and will be charged
to the sponsoring member if the person responsible for damage is a guest.
3. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on Club property, except on special occasions
authorized by the Board of Directors.
4. Personal radios, recorders, or CD players are not permitted, unless used solely with
earphones. [5/99]
5. No skateboards or roller blades will be allowed on pool property. [5/99]
6. Bikes must be placed in the bike rack next to driveway and are not allowed on any
walkways or grassy areas. [5/99]
II. Parking
The existing parking spaces are
intended to serve members living outside Fox Mill Woods. Therefore, members from Fox Mill
Woods are requested not to use parking facilities during weekends and holidays. Also,
members are asked not to park along Black Fir Court as a courtesy to neighbors. [5/89]
III Swimming Pool
and Bathhouse
A. Admission
1. No person shall use the pool
unless it is officially open and guards are on duty.
2. All members and guests are required to show their Photo I.D. at the pool entrance.
3. Identification of members will be based upon a Photo I.D. system. Only those persons
recognizable in the photograph will be considered members.
4. Members' children and guests between the ages of 9 and 13 (i.e. have passed 9th but not
yet reached 13th birthday) shall be admitted without adult supervision only if they have
passed the basic swimming test and the authorization has been signed. This fact will be
recorded on the member's child's Photo I.D. by a blue dot. Guests between the ages of 9
and 13 who have passed the swimming test and have a signed authorization to swim without a
parent must wear an I.D. band.
5. Children under the age of 9 must be accompanied by a parent or designated person 14
years of age or older while in the pool area. [5/99]
6. Baby sitters and nannies, accompanying members' children, are allowed in the pool area
free of charge, provided they have written permission from the child's parents in hand or
on file. [5/99]
B. Guests
It is the general intent of the
Club that the residents of Fox Mill Woods be encouraged to join as co-owners and full
participants in Club activities. Therefore, residents of Fox Mill Woods who are not
members will not be permitted as guests of member households.
1.No member family shall have more
than four (4) guests or one guest family unit on the Club property at any one time. An
exception may be granted in consultation with the Pool Liaison.
2. Guests of members shall be
admitted subject to fees set by the Board.
3. Guest coupons may be purchased
from the gatekeepers. Any checks should be made payable to Fox Mill Woods Swim &
Tennis Club, Inc.
4. Houseguests of members, who will
be visiting for an extended period of time, may use all of the facilities for a reduced
charge. Application forms and fee schedule are available at the pool office.
5. Guests must be signed into the
register provided. Guests not attired in bathing suits may be admitted without charge, but
must be registered by the sponsoring member. [5/94]
C. Rules
1. The pool manager, assistant
manager and lifeguards are in charge of the pool and are authorized to enforce the Club
rules. The pool manager on duty shall have authority to close the pool area in the
interest of health or safety when weather or other conditions dictate. Members and guests
shall not question the authority of the lifeguards or attendants. All complaints shall be
made to the pool manager or assistant manager on duty. If the complaint is unresolved by
the above process, contact the Pool Liaison. [5/99]
2. All bathers shall take a shower
in the bathhouse before entering the pool. [5/99]
3. Any person who has a skin
disease, nasal or ear discharge, inflamed eyes or any communicable disease or who is
wearing any kind of bandage will not be permitted in the pool.
4. All persons shall stay clear of
the lifeguard stand.
5. Articles of food, including
candy"and gum, are prohibited in the pool enclosure. However, non-alcoholic beverages
in non-glass containers are permitted within the pool enclosure.
6. Glass containers are not allowed
in the pool area.
7. Individuals wearing street shoes
are not allowed in the pool area.
8. Smoking is prohibited in the
pool area, bathhouse or in the playground area. [5/99]
9. Profanity is not allowed. [5/99]
10. Running, pushing, wrestling,
ball playing or causing undue disturbances which are considered by the manager, assistant
manger, or lifeguard to be detrimental to the health or safety of members or their guests
are prohibited in the pool area. At the discretion of the manager, ball playing may be
permitted. [5/99]
11. Swimming equipment (preservers,
noodles, masks, fins, and snorkels) may be permitted during low usage times at the
discretion of the manager.
12. A rest period of fifteen
minutes each hour will be called. All children under age 16 shall leave the pool until
rest period has been terminated. Children under the age of one and in the arms of their
parents may be permitted to stay. [5/99]
13. Any person unable to
demonstrate to the lifeguards their ability to pass the basic swimming test is not
permitted in water beyond chest deep. [5/89] The basic swimming test shall consist of:
a. Swimming the length of the pool non-stop with a recognized
stroke; and,
b. floating and/or treading water for a one-minute period.
14. Not pets will be permitted in
the pool area.
15. Playpens, strollers and baby
carriages may be permitted in areas designated by the manager.
16. Rules specifically for
children:
(a) Toddlers who are not toilet
trained are required- o wear diapers/pampers and, protective rubber pants under their
swimsuit.
(b) Children under the age of 6
must have a supervising adult within arms length at all times while in the pool, unless
they have passed the basic swimming test.
(c) Only children under the age of
6 and supervising parents are permitted in the wading pool. Children in the wading pool
must be attended.
(d) Children who have not passed
the basic swimming test may not use the diving board.
(e) Children under the age of 16
are requested not to use the lounge chairs.
17. Diving Rules:
(a) Only one person on the board at
one time.
(b) No dive shall be made until the
previous diver has cleared the area.
(c) No dive may be made from the
side of the board or in a direction other than forward. (This does not prohibit any
standard dive made while facing the board.)
(d) No horseplay allowed.
(e) Divers shall swim out of the
area as soon as possible.
(f) No facemasks are permitted
while diving. [5/89]
(g) Jumping/diving into the diving
areas from poolside is prohibit
18. Proper attire is required in
the pool. "Cutoffs" are not allowed.
19. Parties are allowed during
regular pool hours. The following rules apply:
(a) A one-week notice must be made
with the Pool Liaison to availability and safety.
(b) Regular guest fees apply.
(c) If the pool management
determines an additional guard is $15.00 per hour charge will be assessed. [5/99]
(d) Clean-up is required or a
$25.00 will be charged. [5/99]
20. Photo I.D.
(a) All members 5 years of age and
older will need a Photo I.D.
(b) The Club will pay for the first
Photo I.D. and re-pictured cards required by the Rules and Regulations. However,
replacement Photo I.D. card will cost the member $10.00. [5/94]
IV. Tennis Court Rules
A. General
1. The tennis enclosure is to be
used only for tennis play and instruction. For safety, babies and toddlers are restricted
from the courts during play.
2. Only 4 people are allowed on
each court at one time, except during lessons.
3. Admission to the courts is
controlled by a key system. A gate key as well as a light key for evening tennis may be
obtained from the Tennis Liaison.
4. The tennis courts may be used
May I through September 30 from 8 a,m. until 10 p.m. During the winter season, October I
through April 30, the hours are 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
5. During weekdays and during open
court time, evening, weekend and holidays:
(a) Play is for one hour for
singles and two hours for doubles. [5/99]
(b) Tennis courts may be reserved
via sign-up sheet from May I through August 31. [5/99]
(c) Players must relinquish the
court to oncoming groups immediately at the hour.
(d) Courts change on the hours.

6. Juniors under the age of 16 are
limited to play before 5 p.m. on weekdays, except during regularly scheduled lessons and
all day on weekends and holidays, unless: [5/99]
(a) They are playing with an adult
(16 years or older). [5/99]
(b) There is available court space
and no adults are waiting to play. Juniors will relinquish the court when requested by the
adult.
7. Soft-soled, non-cleated athletic
shoes are required. Jogging shoes are not acceptable.
8. No smoking or food is allowed in
the tennis court area.
9. Members are to ensure that the
gates are kept locked at all times.
10. The cost of repairs of any
property damage will be charged to the responsible party, the parents if the person is a
junior or the sponsoring member if the person is a guest.
11. Courts are to be used for
Tennis only by members and their guests. [5/99]
12. Tennis rules or etiquette and
common courtesy should be observed at all times on the courts.
B. Reserved Courts
1. A reservation system is used
from May I to August 3 1. [5/99]
(a) Courts 2, 3 and 4 can be
reserved. Court I is reserved for the tennis pro.
(b) Reservations will be by sign-up
sheets, which will be posed at the courts.
(c) A 10-minute delay will be
accepted for occupying a reserved court. After that time, the court is free for open play
for the remainder of the hour.
(d) Only one date and time may be
signed-up for at a time. [5/99]
(e) Team matches, lessons and
practice sessions have priority over random play. [5/99]
C. Guests
1. No admission for Fox Mill Woods
residents who are not members of the Club.
2. One half of all players on the
court must be a Club member.
3. While guests play without fee,
members are expected to use discretion in the number of times he/she plays with the same
guest,
D. Professional Instruction
1. Court I will be made for members
who arrange for tennis instruction.
2. Only club members or their
houseguests may receive instructions on the courts.
1. Hours of Operation are as
follows: 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. - October 1 through April 30; 8:00 a.m.
until 10:00 p.m. - May 1 through September 30. Admittance to the courts prior to
and/or after these hours is prohibited by Fairfax County.
2. The lights can be turned on 30
minutes before sundown.
3. Courts 3 and 4 are separately
keyed. Courts 1 and 2 turn on/off together. [5/99]
4. Begin lighting with Court 3 and
4 then Courts 2 and 1 [5/99]
5. Do not linger at the courts or
on Club grounds after 10:00 p.m. (8:00 p.m.). You are trespassing if you do, and will be
creating a potential complaint that could adversely affect the Club and light operation.
6. Juniors (under age 16) may only
play under the lights with adult supervision.
7. While playing at night, noise
must be minimized at all times. No loud talking, yelling, profanity, exclamations, etc. No
radios or boom-boxes are allowed (Please help-our continued use of the lights for these
hours is at stake.)
8. Courts change on the hour.
Normal sign-up rules apply. [5/99]
9. It is important to minimize the
number of ON-OFF-ON cycles of the light system. Therefore, when courts change, arrange a
key swap with the people going on (or staying on) so that a key stays in and the lights
remain ON.
10. Anyone conducting themselves in
a manner which, in the opinion of another member, a member of the Tennis Committee and/or
Board of Directors, is potentially damaging in terms of complaints to officials of the
County or the Police, will be subject to immediate and indefinite suspension of playing
privileges.
11. This is your Club. Please help
by abiding by these rules. [5/99]
12. Violations Of the rules and/or
problems with the lights should be immediately reported to the Tennis Liaison Board
Member. [5/99]
V. Rule Changes
The Board of
Directors may modify the rules temporarily for a special event (swim meet, tennis match,
party, etc.) The Board will consider permanent changes whenever given a written suggestion
by a member. The operation rules may be revised as required by the Board.
